In Memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been a hero and inspiration to me since my childhood. His vision still lights my heart and permits me to hope that we can bring the peace we seek into the world by first finding it in our own hearts and giving it generously away to the hearts of others.

In his honor, I want to invite us all to rest our heads and our hearts in the faith that “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” And a reminder, paraphrasing the Bible and echoing the practical truth that Faith without works is dead. And work there is to be done ahead.

So whatever good you do, wherever you are in this universe and whatever your role, may you be guided by kindness toward yourself and others. This world is a hard place without the support from and connection with a community of caring folk. So let us be caring for each other.

And now for the medicine!

Craniosacral Therapy for Sinuses, Eye Strain, and Headaches

Winter! When everyone around us is sniffling, coughing, and rubbing their eyes- Maybe you, too!

My Craniosacral Therapy (CST) clients find relief with CST’s gentle yet focused touch, releasing restrictions in the craniosacral system, the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

CST is increasingly recognized as an effective complementary therapy for alleviating sinus pressure, eye strain, and headaches.

For sinus pressure, CST releases tension in the fascia and connective tissues of the skull, face, and neck and improves fluid circulation by gently mobilizing the bones of the face and skull to reduce congestion in the nasal passages.

A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that CST facilitated improved lymphatic flow and reduced symptoms of chronic sinusitis (Downey et al, 2017).

Often accompanying sinus pressure, eye strain can be alleviated using CST to reduce the tension in the muscles around the eyes and the cranial nerves supporting vision by working on the orbits and surrounding tissues to relieve strain caused by prolonged screen use or other activities requiring intense focus.

This reduces discomfort and can prevent the onset of eyestrain-associated headaches.

Headaches, whether from the sinuses, eyes, tension-type or migraine, often arise from restrictions in cranial or cervical structures. CST addresses these restrictions by gently releasing tight fascia and restoring balance to the craniosacral rhythm.

A systematic review in Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain noted a significant reduction in headache frequency and intensity with CST interventions (Smith et al, 2019).

We are here to support you and help you manage winter’s impacts on your body, mind, and spirit! Come visit us in our beautiful Union Square studio or schedule a remote session from the hygge of your own home.

Namaste,
