Interstitial Fluid—Achieving Coherence in our Cellular Community
I want to acknowledge how difficult these times are and how each of us individually and collectively may be experiencing challenging conditions and strong feelings.
Are we being called to stand up, stand strong, stand together, support each other, as in “a problem shared is a problem halved”? Remember that together we can do what we cannot do alone.
I invite you to share your voice, your song, your love language with your community, for it is the strength of our communities that carries us when the institutions and structures we depend on crumble and we cannot bear to walk alone.
For inspiration, here is a link to the film “Join or Die”, clarifying the vital importance of connection and a sense of coherence- within and among ourselves. https://www.joinordiefilm.com
In this spirit of community, within our bodies there is a community of cells, referred to as interstitial fluid (Molecular Biology of the Cell) or the “interstitium”.
This is the fluid that fills the spaces between the cells in our tissues, the medium for nutrient and waste exchange between blood capillaries and cells. It carries dissolved ions, nutrients, hormones, and other molecules necessary for cellular function.
Interstitial fluid surrounds and connects all the cells throughout our body, forming a cellular community. It carries the nutrients and oxygen to the cells, ensuring each cell can thrive. It flows between the capillaries and the cells, allowing for the dynamic exchange of nutrients.
Interstitial fluid is a channel for intercellular communication, transporting the cytokines, growth factors, and other signaling molecules that enable coordinated responses to injuries, infections, and other challenges.
This interplay underscores the community-like nature of Interstitial fluid, where cells and tissues relay messages to each other to ensure our systems are running smoothly and efficiently.
In craniosacral therapy, we use gentle touch to improve the fluid dynamics of interstitial fluid throughout the body, supporting your innate ability to heal, and increasing the sense of connection and well-being that you experience during a session.
Interstitial fluid is a life-sustaining, potent network illustrating our body’s deep interconnectedness.
When we nurture this connection, we support the health of our entire being.
Over the next months, I’ll be exploring how the health of the interstitium is related to coherence, and how craniosacral therapy promotes coherence throughout our internal and external environments.
