Reflections On Magma, Molten And Magnetic Like Our Blood, Like The Beating Of Our Hearts
Squarely in October now, with the changing colors and shifting light between days and nights, I am moved to turn inward, my version of hibernation, and to delve ever deeper into my connection with nature and the earth.
In our Body-Mind Centering® circle, we’ve been embodying the embryological origins of our urogenital system to balance the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. I find the tone of my parasympathetic system to resemble magma.
Magma is the molten substance deep beneath the earth’s surface and is remarkably like our blood. Both are dynamic, flowing, and life-giving substances that are essential for maintaining balance and vitality in each of our respective systems.
Just as magma flows below the earth’s surface, driving earth’s vital geological processes, blood flows below our skin, driving our vital physiological processes. Both are magnetic due to their iron-rich nature, creating deep, magnetic connections between the earth and our physical bodies.
The movement and flow of fluids in our bodies, including blood, lymph, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are essential for maintaining homeostasis and health. Both the earth’s magma chambers, and our human hearts are pumps that circulate and maintain the fluid rhythms that keep us moving, dancing, and breathing.
Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy (BCST) uses gentle therapeutic touch to enhance the flow of fluids, helping the body release tension, reduce inflammation, and restore balance. This fluid motion can be compared to the slow and powerful movement of magma—releasing pressure, inducing healing, and renewing, refreshing and rebirthing.
BCST works with the body’s natural rhythms, much like the way magma moves through the heart of the earth. It connects the inherent health and flow within the body, aligning with the deeper, biodynamic forces that guide our physiology. By tapping into these natural rhythms, BCST helps restore the body’s fluidity and vitality, much as the earth’s cycles bring renewal and clarity.
Just as magma supports the earth’s health, BCST supports our health, allowing our bodies to release stored tensions and align with their natural healing—bringing us into balance, into rhythm and into resonance with the earth.
It’s a Wrap!
What a busy month! Surrounded by 2- and 3-year-olds at the Bank Street Head Start as a volunteer TA once a week, I feel so privileged to be part of this caring community of educational professionals whose goal is to nurture children and support parents.
We also brought the Baby Bodywork course to new parents as part of Boram Care’s virtual community. I developed Baby Bodywork as a fun and approachable way to deepen your bond with your baby, encourage digestion, relieve tummy upsets, support better sleep patterns, boost the immune system, and understand your baby’s non-verbal cues in just 10 minutes every day with your baby!
