The Subtle & Profound Influence of Touch

Dear Friends,
As late summer’s mornings bring fresh winds from autumn’s approach, my reflections settle on the subtle yet profound influence of touch—how something so soft can ripple through our entire being, sharpening our sense of safety, calm, and connection.
The word itself, influence, comes from the Latin, “to flow in”, and that is exactly how the nurturing touch of Craniosacral therapy feels.It is a great privilege to witness the transformative power of gentle touch “flowing in” through Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, observing as it helps regulate and restore our nervous system to calm.

Touch and the Nervous System

The nervous system is our body’s internal recording and messaging network, constantly receiving and sending signals that shape how we feel, how we move, and how we respond to our inner and outer environments. 

When we experience stress, pain, or overwhelm, our nervous system can shift into a state of heightened alert—Periscope Up! — activating our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight), leaving us feeling scattered, anxious, and disoriented. Gentle, attuned, and nurturing touch sends a different message: safety, presence, and connection

Through Biodynamic Craniosacral Sessions, our bodies can slow down, to settle and return to our inner rhythms. This is not about “fixing” anything, rather it is about listening and creating space for the nervous system to recalibrate and find its own harmony.

Each act of gentle attention is an invitation for your nervous system to settle, reminding you of your own capacity for balance and connection. By honoring your body’s signals and responding with care, you nurture your foundation for resilience and deeper self-awareness. This is the heart of my work: supporting you in discovering the quiet wisdom that resides within.

Somatic Reflection: Sensing Touch

I invite you to find a quiet moment and observe the sensations present in your body. Where do you feel tension? Where is there ease? Do you feel heat anywhere? Do you feel coolness?

Perhaps you’d like to place a hand gently on your heart or belly.  Notice the warmth and weight of your own touch.

As you breathe, do you notice any subtle shifts—a softening, a  deepening, or a sense of groundedness?

I invite you to play with sensing your hand touching your heart or  belly, and then your heart or belly sensing the touch of the hand. Are  they the same? Different? What do you notice?
