Embryology and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
And just like that, September bids us farewell and October is begun as a brilliant shifting and shaking the summer loose. Time to put the harvest away and prepare for the shorter days and longer nights. Transitions. Bring out the sweaters and the gloves. For some of us, it’s also back to school, for all of us, the changing winds bring scents of the new, new trails to explore and discoveries to be made. I return to my roots.
Embryology and embryological development are one framework for understanding the subtle movements of our internal fluid systems contained within the skin.
Understanding the developmental forces and the origin of our existing form allows the Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist to sense not just the movement of the tissues and the bones but also the underlying forces directing their movement, established in the womb (nature), and shaped by one’s environment (nurture).
“Fluid body” speaks to the fluid nature of the embryo carried within all of us as we grow and become embodied humans. Understanding this source and its lifelong influence carries tremendous potential for healing.
In sessions, I attune to the rhythmic movement of fluids back and forth between the belly and the back. This is where, at around three weeks post-conception, a temporary opening between the amniotic and yolk sacs forms a channel connecting them. This movement of fluids between them ignites the autonomic fluid rhythm and establishes the baseline (bass line) of our fluid rhythms.
The autonomic fluid rhythm is perceptible to the Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist’s hands and guide my touch throughout the treatment session. These rhythms are the foundation of the cerebrospinal fluid’s movement and the integration of the central nervous system, resulting in health and well-being.
Namaste,
Dr. Ellyce DiPaola
